The deep ocean is not silent. It is under-instrumented. Bathys exists to put honest sensors where the physics happens, move their readings to a human within twelve milliseconds, and make the picture legible enough that people override the machine well.

Operating Principles

Three rules the array is built around.

  1. 01

    Loud early, quiet late

    The engine surfaces a gradient minutes before it becomes an event. Operators decide; the system never hides a signal to look calm.

  2. 02

    Every transit is a survey

    Vessels carrying Bathys hardware map the seafloor continuously. The bathymetry model is versioned, diffed and never older than the last passage.

  3. 03

    Humans stay in the loop

    Autonomous ballast release exists to buy time, not to replace judgment. Nine of twenty-four contained incidents were operator holds.

From four moorings to three basins.

  1. 2021

    Bathys founded in Seattle. First four-mooring test array deployed off the Juan de Fuca Ridge.

  2. 2023

    Acoustic relay network reaches the 12 ms budget. Autonomous ballast release policy enters governed rollout.

  3. 2025

    Java trench deployment: 22 moorings, first versioned bathymetry model, 24 contained turbidity incidents.

  4. 2026

    Mariana array at 6,050 m. 4,092 live buoys across three basins. thermocline_alpha becomes the default model.
