Aiko Tanaka runs field operations for Bathys: vessel charters, mooring deployment, recovery and the logistics that put a sensor array where the science needs it. She started her career as a deck officer on research vessels before moving into observatory operations, and has led deployments in the Mariana, Izu-Bonin and Java trench systems.
